Australia's car history has been defined by a number of different trends, however, few are proving to be as popular as the love for SUVs that's currently sweeping the nation.
SUVs are capable off-road vehicles.
With domestic production of local automotive heroes such as the Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon coming to an end, it appears as though SUVs may be taking over as the new face of Australian motoring.
While these bigger and increasingly more capable off-road machines may be mechanically able to perform in the great outdoors, the real question is can their interiors withstand the pressure of coping with all types of family members, from grubby dogs and messy kids, to dads and their fishing gear. Why take the risk when you can buy car seat covers and protect your asset instead?
How many new SUVs hit the road recently?
Not only are Australians buying more cars than ever before, more often than not they're choosing something with a raised ride height and four-wheel drive. It makes sense when you think about: Australia's diverse landscape and love of the outdoors means cars need to be able to take a bit of punishment.
According to the most recent figures from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, these vehicles are still rising in popularity. Almost 37,000 SUVs were sold in February 2016, marking a 15.1 per cent increase on the same timeframe from last year.
Despite SUVs being the most popular market segment, the humble Toyota Corolla was still the most popular vehicle nationwide.
New car intention on the rise
As if the current records weren't enough, Roy Morgan Research reported that more Australians than ever are looking to buy a car in the coming 12 months. According to the firm's research, more than 2 million people have their eye on a new vehicle.
Naturally, car owners are going to want to protect these investments, especially if they're using it as a family car, work vehicle or to Uber people from place to place. Drivers can buy a range of car interior accessories to ensure their new pride and joy remains looking new.
Roy Morgan Research found that 30 per cent of people have their eye on new Toyotas and Mazdas in particular. With both manufacturers selling SUVs, there's likely to be a lot of demand for car seat covers across these brands as consumers put their new vehicles to the ultimate test.
