In a country as vast as Australia, it's not surprising that many of us are a bit motor-mad. In fact, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reckons we have a total of over 13.5 million passenger vehicles, not including campervans, trucks/buses and motorbikes (which is 1.9 per cent more than we had in 2014, and over 10 per cent more than 2010!).

But which cars are the ones we love the most? And which are the ones everybody loves to own, flaunt and jazz up with unique exterior vehicle accessories? Let's examine the list.

Australia's most popular cars, 2015

We'll start with the types of cars. As the ABS showed, passenger vehicles are the most common type of automobile in the nation, the majority of which are unleaded petrol cars (77 per cent of our entire fleet). You'd think diesel might be a bit higher, what with so much awesome off-road potential here for our classic four-wheel drives, but obviously modern petrol-driven alternatives have taken charge. Diesel only accounts for 19.7 per cent of our cars.

But what about the manufacturer brands? We all love a good bit of loyalty, but you can't be loyal to everyone. The next time you are in the market for a new car, consider a Toyota – you'll find it the easiest to come across.

According to Car Advice's list of September car sales, the top five current most popular cars in Oz are as follows:

  1. Toyota
  2. Mazda
  3. Holden
  4. Hyundai
  5. Mitsubishi
