When it comes to driving jobs, Uber is a fantastic option. Offering their employees decent pay, flexibility and freedom, Uber is an attractive prospect for those that prefer to be in charge of their work lives, and not the other way around. If you feel as though driving for this prominent ride share company is something you want to do, here's what you will need to know.
Uber is an attractive prospect for those that prefer to be in charge of their work lives, and not the other way around.
1) There are a few things you'll need to be eligible to drive for Uber
There are some obvious requirements for this role. As you would expect from a driving job, a full license held for longer than a year is necessary. In addition, all drivers must be over 21 years of age and have a clean driving history.
You will also need all the right paperwork. Cars must be registered and have personal insurance. From here, it's a matter of getting your driver accreditation, which will allow you to drive commercially. The vehicle that will be used for travel must also be from the year 2000 onwards and must be in good condition.
2) Uber drivers can get into some strange situations
With the huge amount of people going in and out of your car, some wear and tear is to be expected. However, while most drivers will have at least one story of a messy passenger, Germaine Allen probably has one of the messiest stories of them all.
In April last year, Allen received a request from David Horvitz, whose wife, Zanna Gilbert, was going into labour. It quickly became obvious that they weren't going to make it to the hospital in time and Gilbert was forced to deliver her baby in the back seat of the vehicle.
Allen, who was an expectant father himself at the time, quickly took the family to the hospital where both the mother and the baby, named Ela Melanie, were given a clean bill of health. Horvitz later posted a photo of the bloodied back seat of the car on Twitter. Uber paid for the car to be cleaned and gave Allen tickets to a Knicks basketball game for his handling of the situation. Baby Ela was given an adorable Uber onesie. A happy ending for all!
